Rovinj EosFit Workshop

With the recent release of the new GUI interface to EosFit and the wide interest in using high pressure to study the uptake of molecules into framework materials, we organised a workshop devoted to EoS theory and using the EosFit software at the ECM29 meeting that was held at Rovinj (Rovigno) in Croatia in August, 2014.

Convenors: Ross Angel (Padova), Daria Pasqual (Padova), Martina Vrankic (Zagreb)
Speakers: Tiziana Boffa-Ballaran (Bayreuth), Matteo Alvaro (Pavia), Ronald Miletich (Vienna), Ross Angel (Padova)

The workshop opened with lectures to briefly introduce the theory behind the elastic response of crystals to pressure and the concepts behind equations of state (EoS). The EosFit program was introduced and the participants were then guided through using the progran to fit data with several worked examples on their own computers. The afternoon was devoted to advanced topics, with emphasis on distinguishing data compromised by experimental artefacts from data exhibiting interesting behaviour such as uptake of pressure media and phase transitions.

The generous support of Rigaku Oxford Diffraction, Stoe & Cie GmbH, and Huber Diffraktiontechnik GmbH & Co. KG along with the INDIMEDEA project and the organising committee of ECM-29 allowed us to keep the registration costs down to a low level.
